As I woke up, I noticed Edwin wasn’t there.
I thought that I was just imagining things, but I wasn’t.
It turned out, that he was just getting up early to make some breakfast.
“Good mornin’ Edwin. How was your sleep?’ I asked as he returned.
“Oh, just wonderful.” He said, smiling, and carrying about ten Nanaboids.
“Mmm. Those look delicious!” I exclaimed, “I’m starved.”
“Yeah? Well, lets eat Jol! Breakfast is served!” he said, setting the cute little fruits down on a tree stump.
The little fruits gave me the same talk they did when I ate the other ones the day before.
Again, I felt sorry, but shoved them into my mouth like an animal.
“Mmm. Just like my momma never made!” Edwin said, chuckled at his remark.
“Edwin, you are so funny” I beamed, laughing a little bit too.
“So Jolie, what project should we start with today? We don’t have too much left to do, considering I already made a fort.” He said proudly.
“Hmm, that’s a tough one, Eddie. I say we just go and explore, because if this is our new city, we might as well explore everything, so we get used to this place. Otherwise, we might go to get something alone, and we get lost, because we don’t know our way around.” I explained
“Yeah, most definitely.”
We got up, and rubbed our stomachs. We were completely stuffed.
I lead the way, by pointing in a random directions, and Edwin following me.
First, we stopped at a giant mushroom. It was huge, at about 100 feet high, and was red with cream-colored spots.
Little creatures slowly started to walk out of it, and mumbling to themselves in gibberish.
They looked like mushrooms, only about half the size of a child, and had the same colors and spots as the giant mushroom.
Their beady little eyes followed you in every direction you went.
Their tiny little legs helped them to move.
Everything about them was cute, but odd.
It was one of those strange moments, when you see something, are kind of afraid of it in a way, but wants to pick it up and cuddle it.
That was the way I felt, and I’m sure Edwin had the same thoughts.
“Aww! Look at the little fellas! Come here little guy! I’m not gonna hurt ya!” Edwin cooed.
“Edwin…back away” I scolded him, and whispered loudly, but slowly.
“Aw come on Jolie! They are just helpless little guys! So cute! A gutchie gutchie goo!” he cooed once more this time getting on my nerves.
“EDWIN!!” I yelled. I had seen the Toegars, and they were cute… at first.
The little mushroom sprang at Edwin, and I heard snarling, and yelling and ripping.
“AAAHH!” screamed Edwin, “Get him off me!! Get it off me!!” he begged.
I didn’t want to; because I wanted him to learn his lesson, but I did the best I could to yank the little creature off of him.
When I pulled it off of him, he was gasping for air, and I was laughing, so hard, tears were rolling down my cheeks. I couldn’t help but giggle.
“Well thanks.” Edwin muttered, too prideful to admit he should have followed my simple instructions.
“Your welcome!” I giggled, acting tall and proud.
He rolled his eyes and his cheeks flushed red.
I smiled when they did, for I had won this battle. For once, I did something for someone.
I felt like he had been doing all the work and constantly taking the role in being the hero.
He had made the fort, and well, made an attempt to save me with the Swampters, and he made the meals.
I needed to start taking action. I needed to be the boss. But we were a team, and I quickly got over my selfish pride.
“Okay Edwin! What should we do now chief?” I laughed once more.
“Stop it Jolie. Your killing me,” he muttered, and hid a smile.
“Okay… okay… chief.” I said once more, saying ‘chief’ quietly.
“I heard that!” he laughed.
“Okay. Sorry chief, it wont happen again.” I said, standing tall and saluted him.
“Uhh” he muttered, this time, getting annoyed.
I stopped.
“Well, what should we do now? And this time I’m serious.” I said, looking him in the eye.
“Well, I say we should start heading back, have some lunch, take a nap. Something like that. I need to get off my feet. They are killing me.” He said.
I nodded my head, and we walked our way back to headquarters (our fort).
When we got back, it was perfect, because a lot of Nanaboids grew back, and that All Around Tree really soothed my hunger.
After lunch, we took about a three-hour nap, and when we woke up, the sky was darkening to a light shade of pink.
“Ah. Isn’t the sky beautiful tonight? It is pink!” I laughed, “My favorite color!”
“Yeah… I guess.” He grunted.
“Why you being a jerk now?” I asked, but felt bad after I had said it.
“I’m just… I’m tired. Goodnight” he said, and rolled over on his side.
“What? It’s… it’s not even dark yet! Are you feeling okay?” I asked.
“Yes! Now let me get my good sleep! Sheesh!” he said, I could tell in his voice he was agitated.
“Well snap out of it. You better be in a good mood by tomorrow morning. No grumpies aloud.” I snarled.
He snorted, and didn’t say a word.
I thought to myself, had I done something wrong?
Was he really feeling sick?
Was he just worried?
I didn’t know, but I didn’t want to bug him.
I turned on my side too, and just sat there, until I fell asleep.
